Dan Gross | Mary, Mariah: Carey-ing on

13.12.2006 04:45

MARY CAREY, the porn star turned politician, is currently embroiled in a legal controversy with singer Mariah Carey, who says Mary's name is too similar to hers and may cause confusion.

But Mary's not letting her legal woes keep her away from Philadelphia.

She'll be dancing next week at Oasis Gentlemen's Club (6800 Essington). She'll perform two shows, at 10:30 and 12:30 each night, on Dec. 21, 22, and 23.

There's a $10 cover each night.

Carey also will be at the club's Dec. 20 Christmas Party. We're told the basketball fanatic is planning to catch at least one Sixers game while she's in town.

Mariah, meanwhile, is about to start shooting Wynnefield native producer Lee Daniels' "Tennessee," in which she will co-star.

Mary Carey, 26, whose real name is Mary Cook, told Reuters that she won't be intimidated by the songbird and will continue efforts to protect her stagename.

"It's kind of funny because I'm a porn star and I've been being myself for a long time," she said. "I think she's being silly." Carey, who started using the name in 2002, ran for governor of California but lost to a more qualified actor.

Looking for cameras, not guns

Moviegoers at a Monday night advance screening of "We Are Marshall" at the Ritz Five (214 Walnut) were surprised to see metal detector wands waved over them on their way inside.

Several people in attendance thought the security measure was being taken in response to last week's shooting outside the brand new Pearl Theater (Broad & Oxford) in North Philly.

Jesse Cute, a local publicist for Warner Bros., said the studio had chosen the security wands to prevent video cameras from getting inside, not for fear of any violence.

Cute said that many studios regularly employ such security methods to protect against piracy.

Seinfeld Trivia on the road

Those of you wondering what was up with "Seinfeld Trivia," which Your Humble Narrator co-hosts with None More Black frontman Jason Shevchuk and No Quarter Records mogul Mike Quinn, should wonder no longer.

We are working on booking "The Peterman Reality Tour," a multi-city trek of the popular contest, regularly held at the Khyber (56 S. 2nd). Your hosts, and Violent Students singer/all-around classic dude Max Milgram, will embark on springtime dates in Washington, DC and New York, in addition to Philadelphia.

We'll keep you posted.

• In other "Seinfeld Trivia" news, congratulations to two-time champion Greg Kuroda and lovely wife Tara Woods Kuroda whose first child, daughter Mina Suki Margarite was born Monday. She weighed in at 6 pounds, 11 ounces. Baby, mom and dad are all doing just fine.

Speaking of the stork

NBC-10 meteorologist Doug Kammerer and wife Holly have just welcomed their first child, a son, Kenton Noel, who was born Dec. 3. He clocked in at 8 pounds, 5 ounces. All are happy and well.
